For our first ever venue styled shoot, we felt it was essential to go local and what better venue to start than The Raven Hotel in Corby. The hotel is unique, its characterful 1930’s ballroom with a curved ceiling, sprung wooden dance floor and stunning custom-made chandeliers make this, in our opinion, Corby’s hidden gem. The Raven Hotel opened in 1938 as The Corby Hotel, it was changed to The Raven Hotel to help boost morale during the war as The Raven was the symbol of Corby.

Having chose the venue, the photography choice was so important. Karl Drage was an obvious choice for us. Based in Northamptonshire and having just recently photographed the venue, we knew we would be in safe hands. Karl is amazing to work with, not only because of his professionalism, his attention to detail but although this was a styled shoot, it was necessary to have someone who could tell a story of the day and Karl’s documentary style suited this down to the ground.

Salonista and Unorthodox Make-Up Box set up in the newly refurbished bridal suite to start work on our bride and bridesmaids. These luxurious and spacious rooms are an amazing asset to an already wonderful venue.

Using quality brands such as Mac, L’Oreal, Maybelline and Too faced, Danielle from Unorthodox Make Up Box got straight to work on our bride and her two bridesmaids. Having previously worked with Danielle, we knew we were in safe hands. Danielle’s knowledge of using the correct colours to match skin tones is second to none and asking her to incorporate the colour theme within the make up was a challenge we knew she would be up for. Salonista, established in 2013 and owned by the amazing Stacey Gadke helped to make the bridal party’s hair perfect on the day. With over 24 years in hairdressing and a team of stylists, make up artists and beauticians we knew we could trust Stacey and her team to get things right. After consulting with Courtyard Bridal and Aimee’s regarding the style of dresses, Stacey and her team opted for a 20’s style wave for the bride, using GHD’s, which are the salon’s styling go to item. For the bridesmaids, they opted for a softly swept natural up do. Both styles worked perfectly for the theme.

Obviously, the bride needed a dress, or two and who better to turn to than the multi award winning Courtyard Bridal Boutique. We wanted to show variety but ensure both styles suited the theme and the girls certainly did not disappoint with their choices. Draval by Pronovias was the choice of ballgown and Samaria by Sassi Holford was the choice of lace fishtail. A gold belt was also added and worked beautifully within this theme. Communication of dress choice and styles were hugely important as it allowed us to relay this information to the hair stylist.

Charlbeck Jewellers, an independent family run business, spoiled us with their choices of jewellery. From necklaces to earrings to the all important ring, Sonia knew exactly what to use to suit hairstyles and dress styles.

Vicker’s menswear based in Rushden provided the suit. We provided Anne with the colour palette and she certainly did not disappoint with this classic black look with a slim fit white shirt and gold pinstripe waistcoat. Matching gold dickie bow, and pocket handkerchief gave the classic ballroom style we wanted.

Victoria Martin was our florist of choice. Victoria is based in Corby and has been a florist for 19 years and works from home. Being a perfectionist is one of the reasons why we love working with this super talented florist. Although the colours were black, white and gold, we set Victoria the challenge of adding a pop of colour to the bouquet. She certainly did not disappoint! Using beautiful Primavera peach roses against deep burgundy and green foliage gave an amazing contrast and by adding white Varonica it created another dimension and texture.

Finding bridesmaids dresses locally can be difficult but with Aimee’s specialising in prom dresses, we knew we could count on her expertise to pick something that not only would suit our colour palette but compliment the bridal gowns.

KTV Venue Stylists were a natural choice to style the ballroom. Having given them the colours of white, black and gold they went for a traditional wedding feel with a modern twist. Black table linen, chair cover’s and starlight backdrop ensured the ballroom theme was met but adding elegant chiffon hoods and ruffles with matching white napkins gave the white wedding feel. Amazing gold lily vase centrepieces and matching tealight and pumpkin candle holders sat perfectly on zebra print runners. Gold sequin tablecloths for the top table gave a great contrast against the black backdrop. Adding a flower wall as a backdrop for the cake table was an inspired choice.

We wanted to use as many local suppliers as possible on this shoot and when it came to stationery and cake it was a no brainer to ask the highly talented CTB Wedding Stationery and Kerry’s Cakes and Treats. Having worked previously with these highly regarded businesses we knew if we gave them the colour palette, we would not be disappointed with what they supplied. As you can see from the photos, this spectacular Strictly Come Dancing inspired cake, which features a ruffled skirt, eye catching bridal belt and big shoulder bow, is fit for this ballroom. CTB went for a contemporary look adding stripes to match the table runners with gold glitter print. This elegant but modern design gave the all-important Wow factor.

We asked John from Bentley 4 Brides, who covers Northamptonshire and surrounding counties if he could provide the transport for this shoot and in keeping with the modern feel what better way for the bride and groom to arrive in style than in a white BMW 7 Series. Having provided John with the dress style, his knowledge and expertise was right on the money with this spacious yet luxury car choice.
