Carley and John met on the 12th April 2002 whilst walking home from the local nightclub, Carley was 16 and John had just turned 18, he was out celebrating his birthday. It was love at first sight, as they have been together ever since. Carley puts this down to how well they get on, they are best friends. Carley loves how much John makes her laugh still, even nearly 16 years later, the jokes he tells are still so funny. Carley’s wonderful cooking and her precision to detail are key to their beautiful relationship according to John. These organisation skills were clearly shown in the planning of her wedding.

John proposed at home on Christmas day 2013 whilst their two girls watched. It was perfect! Carley was pregnant with their third child and they had planned to reveal that we were having a boy to our families later that day! To this day they both say this was the most amazing Christmas, their families were filled with such happiness and joy.

Four years on and Carley and John finally decided to start planning their wedding in January 2017. They set their hearts on the date 21st December of that year. It was an obvious choice of time of year to marry due to when they got engaged. Their initial plan was to marry abroad, and Mexico was the chosen destination, however due to ill health within the family they were not able to do so. The planning quickly commenced, and we attended wedding fayres at local venues and used social media to source suppliers.

We first met Carley and John at a local wedding fayre held at The Raven Hotel in March 2017, our cheese cart drew the happy couple to our stand.

It was our first time exhibiting at this stunning venue and luckily for us, Carley and John also fell in love with it and chose this to be their reception venue, as they had already decided to have their wedding at Great Oakley St Michaels and All Angels Church.

Carley and John contacted us a few weeks later and we arranged to meet at our showroom to discuss their plans and see how we could help style the venue with a Christmassy theme but with a sparkle of glam. Carley was clear and concise with her plans, she knew exactly what she wanted, which made our job so much easier. Ivory, black and gold were the colour palette we had to work with and of course, glitter and sparkle.

We used white linen on all the tables with matching white Lycra chair covers to give a clean feel to the room. Ivory organza sashes and satin ivory runners were used to give the white some colour but ensuring a clean elegant feel was kept.

Our gorgeous gold candelabras sat on a wooden log slice brought the table to life. Using a mixture of artificial gold and cream flowers and gold glitter within the foliage made these the talking point that Carley wanted. Ivory table number holders were used for the glittery gold table names, which of course was all Christmas related with classic quotes.

Carley’s bridesmaids were dressed in black and to incorporate this within her room décor, we opted for black napkins for all 107 guests.

We offset their top table to the left of the room instead of the traditional place on the stage to make way for our stunning LED metal love letters. These gave the perfect backdrop for photo’s.

We used a white satin starlight backdrop behind the top table with matching skirts for the top and cake tables. Instead of the traditional top table arrangement a decorated Christmas wreath was used.

Carley wanted to ensure her mark was left within the room décor and not only did she provide and decorate several Christmas trees in the walk way of The Raven Hotel but she also handmade all 107 place name cards. Instead of wedding favours, the couple decided it would be a fitting tribute to have the guests give a donation to The Alzheimer’s Charity. This is a charity very close to their family, Carley’s gran was diagnosed several years ago and is now in the advanced stages and being cared for in a care home. Her mum’s long-term partner who has been an important part and figure in raising her and her sisters through childhood, was also sadly diagnosed in his early 50’s and is in the very advanced stages of mixed Dementia, is also now being cared for in a nursing home.

Carley and John wanted a wow factor in this already amazing venue and the best way of doing this was for us to use our ceiling drapes with twinkle lights.
